ALEXANDRIA, Va. (June 21, 2017) National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) CEO B. Douglas Hoey, RPh, MBA, issued the following statement today in support of new compounding legislation, H.R. 2871, The Preserving Patient Access to Compounded Medications Act of 2017, introduced by Reps. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.) and Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), that will improve patient access to compounded medications:
"NCPA supports Congress's efforts to assure appropriate oversight of compounding pharmacies in a way that does not curtail or hinder patient access to those specially-tailored medications. When the Drug Quality & Security Act (DQSA) became law in 2013, we and our coalition partners turned our attention to the implementation process.
"During the ensuing years it has become apparent that a congressional fix was in order to better align the statute, congressional intent, public safety and patient access to compounded medications. Representatives Griffith's and Cuellar's legislation, H.R. 2871, balances those objectives. This common-sense, bipartisan legislative fix should be supported in the House of Representatives and a companion bill should be introduced in the Senate."
